August Alsina

August Alsina is a singer from New Orleans who moved to Houston early in life. He began posting his musical content onto YouTube when he was just 14. And by the time he was about 20 he began putting out his own mixtapes.

His efforts resulted in him signing with Def Jam Records. Under that label he released a couple of projects, i.e. his debut EP and album, which are respectively entitled “Downtown: Life Under the Gun”  (2013) and “Testimony” (2014). The latter proved especially successfully, reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200. It even went as far as actually topping a couple of other Billboard charts (Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums). Indeed those early years may prove to be the epoch of August’s career. And why? Because between 2013 and 2014, he dropped two RIAA-certified platinum singles as well as two gold singles.

Even though in the years that followed he was not able to replicate such musical success, in 2020 August did manage to make major headlines. That was when it became public knowledge that he did in fact have a sexual relationship with the married Jada Pinkett-Smith – a rumor that had been in circulation for some time prior. In 2020, he even released a song about the affair. He titled that song “Entanglements“.
