According to Beabadoobee, this is one of the more personal songs on her album, “Fake It Flowers”. In fact it is, to some extent, based on a romance she is engaged in real life. For instance, it has been noted that her boyfriend does in fact reside in France (as of the release date of the song). But more to the point is the peaceful feeling the lyrics are meant to convey. Or it can be said that “Mars”, as used in the title, is a location that is actually symbolic of the singer’s idealized lifestyle. And in that regard, what she desires most is simply chillin’ on the beach with her boyfriend, allowing him to braid her hair.
