Bebe Rexha’s “Better Mistakes” Lyrics Meaning

Bebe Rexha’s “Better Mistakes” is a song which, in its own roundabout way, acknowledges the fact that mistakes are inevitable. So with that in mind, it is not about living a puritan life. Rather the singer’s disposition is more like she doesn’t want to do anything that she knows she will regret afterwards, instantly even.

And she puts this idea most pointedly within a romantic context. That is to say that she is very much against the idea of giving in to an amorous, mischievous whim and having a one-night stand with someone she doesn’t actually love. And there are also quite a few other “mistakes” listed that very much against making. Amongst those are dying her hair, having sex with her ex-boyfriend and losing her phone.

Bebe also acknowledges a major personality flaw which lies at the center of another song, entitled “Sabotage“, on this same album. And that would be a tendency to casually destroy fruitful relationships in her life.

Moreover, just as she is cognizant that there are things she shouldn’t do, there are also quite a few actions she feels would be beneficial picking up. For instance, the narrator wouldn’t mind being more observant of advice given by friends. Also, it would help if she weren’t so conceited at times. And the vocalist realizes that it would also be in her best interest to completely get over her ex already.

Central Theme

As noted later in the article, this is the title track of the album it is featured on. And as explained by Bebe Rexha, the entire undertaking is themed on the subject of “actual insecurity” she regularly faces in life.

During that explanation, one of the ways she lists such as being manifest is via a tendency to self-sabotage her own wellbeing. And just like the aforementioned track named “Sabotage”, thesis-sentiment wise that would also be the central theme of this song. That is to say that the singer wants to cut all, shall we say boneheaded activity out of her life.

In other words, when she does make a mistake, she wants it to be a “better” one than something she already knows she shouldn’t do.
