Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is an American pop singer and songwriter. She became famous in the music industry when she released her first song “Ocean Eyes” in 2015. The song exploded on the music streaming site Spotify and has since obtained more than 190 million streams.

Born and bred in a family of musicians, Billie always wanted to become a music star. She joined a choir and started singing at the age of 8. When she turned 11, she began writing songs and singing on her own. She followed her Spotify banger with her firs EP titled, Don’t Smile at Me. The EP came out in August 2017 and further enhanced Billie’s stardom in her home country and abroad. The Recording Industry of America had nothing but praises for her.

Due to her high potential to take over the pop genre, Apple honored her by naming her as their new Up Next. Billie can boast of a lot of other hit songs such as “Six Feet Under”, “Bellyache” and “Bury a Friend”.

According to Billie, her musical influences include the likes of Avril Lavigne and The Beatles.

HER CHILDHOOD

Billie Eilish’s place of birth is the city of Los Angeles, California, one of the entertainment capitols of the world. And both of her parents, father Patrick O’Connell and mother Maggie Baird, are professional entertainers. Patrick is an actor who most-notably appeared in the MCU’s first film, Iron Man (2008). Maggie is an actress who has worked on a number of television shows, movies and videogames.

Being that both of her parents are also experienced in playing music, it was actually Billie’s mom, who homeschooled her children, that has taught her the skill of songwriting. In fact as many readers already know Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, is quite a successful musician himself. And it was their mom who first introduced them to the discipline of creating their own songs.

And for the record, Billie’s last name is also officially O’Connell. In fact her entire five-tiered name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. So she just uses the first two of her names on stage. And interesting to note is that initially her parents were going to name her Eilish, not Billie.

Being that she came from such a musically-inclined family, Eilish began seriously writing songs when she was 11 years old, once again under the tutelage of her mom. And just to note she also has been formally involved in acting since an early age, having contributed to some of the X-Men films and others.

Billie Eilish proved talented enough at the age of 14 that, being buttressed by the talents of Finneas, to drop her first single. Said track is entitled Ocean Eyes (2016). And it proved successful enough, selling approximately 5,000,000 copies, to instantly make her star.  And she achieved this from a track Eilish herself independently released by uploading onto SoundCloud.

HER STYLE

Moreover, many people were intrigued by Billie Eilish due to her fashion sense. For instance, she prefers to wear baggy, wildly-colorful clothes, with her overall style having been referred to as “neo-goth”. The songstress is on record as stating that the reason she prefers such clothing is to actually transcend her comfort zone, not vice versa. Moreover she likes to wear attire that catches the attention of others due to stylistic nonconformity.

However, in 2019 Eilish revealed a further truth. And that is she wears baggy clothes as a means of protection against body shamers. In other words, since no one can actually see the contours of Billie’s body due to the looseness of her clothing, at the same time no one is able to criticize her shape.

And truth be told, this is a unique stance to take in a music industry in which female artists have increasingly become dependent on their sex appeal. Indeed many even go through surgical body modifications to appear a certain way. But by contrast, Billie would rather have the audience focused on her music as opposed to her looks.

HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

As of 2020, at 18 years of age, Billie has been widely successful, especially for an artist who up until that point had only dropped one full-length album. And 2020 has been particularly kind to her. For instance, during that year she outstandingly took home five Grammy Awards. In fact there was only one musician at the ceremony who won more awards than Billie. And do you know who that was? It was none other Finneas. And said accolades were due to the work he put together alongside his little sister.

That same year Billie won a couple of American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, a Brit Award and many others. Indeed the trophies she took home in just a two-year timespan, from 2019 to 2020, are way too numerous to mention here.

Many of these accolades once again point back to her debut album, which is entitled When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? This is an album which not only topped the Billboard 200 and UK Albums Chart but also went to number 1 in 20 other countries. It has gone triple-platinum in the United States, septuple-platinum in Norway and achieved platinum success or better in over a dozen other nations. And at the time of the release of the project, Billie was a tender 17 years of age.

Additionally the songstress has headlined five tours between 2017 and 2020 embarking on the first one, the Don’t Smile at Me Tour, when she was just 15. She has also officially worked with some of the best known brands in the world, such as Calvin Klein and Apple.

PERSONAL LIFE

But all success stories, no matter how incredible, also have their sad parts. And unfortunately for Eilish she has been diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder known as Tourette’s syndrome. This basically means that she can be stricken with tics, whether motor or vocal, at any given moment. Moreover, the songstress is known to commonly deal with the subject of depression in her music. And Billie has admitted that she has dealt with her own battles against this dreaded mode of thinking throughout her young adult life

It should also be noted that Eilish has a history of being quite obsessed with none other than Justin Bieber. This may sound comical to some, even Billie Eilish herself, as many young ladies are stricken with mad love for the Biebs. However, her case was serious enough that her parents did in fact consider taking her to therapy to treat it.

Billie Eilish grew up as a vegetarian, i.e. someone who does not eat meat. And in 2014 she transitioned over to full-fledged veganism, meaning that now she abstains not only from fish but also all dairy and animal products. In fact she is known to be quite the activist when it comes to animal rights in general. And in that regard she even won an award from PETA, having earned the Best Voice for Animals accolade in 2019. Moreover she’s a pet owner, having two dogs and a cat as of 2020.

Also in 2020 she has made her political leanings quite known by vehemently endorsing Democrat Joe Biden for US President. Or perhaps more pointedly, the young singer expressed a particular disliking for the political stylings of Donald Trump.

As you can probably tell from her style, Eilish isn’t really that big on romance. This is probably because, as the singer has recounted, she has had her own fair share of less-than-ideal experiences in the field. But even if she does land a sweetheart, the world will likely only learn of such by force. That is to say that Billie is infamously-private when it comes to her love life.

BILLIE EILISH’S ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS

Billie has written many songs based on the concept of dating and relationships. She has also been involved in a couple of real-life romantic relationships. Although she has been tight-lipped about her love life for some time, she has revealed some information about it in a couple of interviews and in her self-titled documentary.

She was involved in a romantic relationship at age 17, with her friend, Henry Whitford. Henry Whitford was her first kiss. However, the relationship sadly ended just after the kiss. Billie has narrated the circumstances that led to their break up.

Apparently, they went to see a movie the day before Valentine’s Day, but the movie was so horrible that they stopped watching halfway through. They left the theater and headed to the roof of the car park to watch the stars. They kissed during that romantic moment. Being Billie’s first kiss, she was utterly disappointed at the outcome. This is because Henry bluntly told her that the kiss was not magical and pleasant at all.

He then walked away from her and left the place, leaving her stranded at the movie theater.

In The World’s a Little Blurry documentary, the singer opened up about another romantic relationship she had with Brandon Question Adams, a rapper who performs under the stage name 7. The documentary hinted that they had many good times, as well as bad times in their relationship. The couple ended their relationship in 2019 within less than a year.

Billie explained that the main reason for the breakup was that she did not feel happy and did not want the same things that her partner wanted.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BILLIE EILISH

She is a big fan of the American sitcom The Office. In fact she even sampled an excerpt from the show onto her 2019 track, which interestingly enough is entitled My Strange Addiction.

The songstress stands at 5 feet, 3 inches (i.e. 1.61 meters) in height.

Her first EP came out in 2017. It is entitled Don’t Smile at Me, and it has been certified platinum in the US, UK and quite a few other countries.

Billie Eilish has appeared with a number of different hair colors throughout the years and is perhaps best known as a brunette. However, naturally she is actually a blonde.

In 2019 she made it onto Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, and as of June of the following year her estimated net worth stood at a whopping $53,000,000.

Her music has been featured on both the season one and season two soundtracks of 13 Reasons Why. This is a Netflix show that is produced by one of her musical-superstar peers, Selena Gomez.

In 2019, one of her tracks, No Time to Die, earned the enviable distinction of being chosen as a theme song for a James Bond movie. In fact she is the youngest musician to come out with a James Bond theme. And whereas the tune proved to be a massive hit, unfortunately due to the film being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic the track itself is not eligible for an Oscar.

She has released two collaborative singles prior to 2020 – &Burn (2017) with Vince Staples and Lovely (2018) alongside Khalid.

She has utilized an Instagram account under her own name, @billieeilish. And for the records, she has nearly 70,000,000 followers as of late 2020.

Outside of Justin Bieber, other musicians she has expressed admiration for include Lana Del Rey in particular, Avril Lavigne and also The Beatles.

Sorry but her music is depressing.. This generation doesn’t need anymore depressing thoughts than it already has… i prefer older love and meaningful music… not this BS..

    • Saucepan says:

you’re entitled to you’re own opinion and I’m not going to try to change that. I personally also like some old music. But the songs have deeper meanings than just being “depressing” and lessons to be taken. For example, xanny is telling you not to smoke or do drugs. when the party’s over could be taken as being about regrets. Come out and play is encouraging you to share your talents and not be scared to show others the true you. Some of her songs could be called “scary” or “depressing”, but I think you should give some of her music a chance if you haven’t already. It’s actually pretty meaningful and catchy. Again, just my opinion, and you’re allowed to like whatever you want. Have a great day to anyone who’s reading this!

    • Kasto says:

For one her music is meaningful but I for one was and am deeply depressed and her music is what I listen to when Im feeling particularly down. All around it calms and centers me and I love it, its deep stuff but its connectable.

  8. Bella says:

I love billie and her songs are not desspressing i was going to see her but this pandemic got in the way. She has her way of writing her music so let her do that

  9. marki says:

yeah ?and what do you know about “meaningful music”? hein? people like you give no time to try and understand the meanings of some song but ur quick to give an opinion while u have no idea about anything . her songs are relaxing and some have her talking about depression but it aint making anyone depressed , u just seem like udk what depression is , its deep . you wont understand :/

    • Isaiah says:

I know what depression is… Most of my family suffered from PTSD and Bipolar depressive episodes.

      • Libbyg says:

I’m with you man. Not only her but that kid Larvoi or whatever. He barely has his adult teeth and here he is with older women having six, killing ppl. Its all about pedoph***a these days. He also has points and nods to Satanism and also suicide. Wow, just wow. Why do you all think its depressing!!

      • A Fan says:

then you should understand that some people feel better relating to things that other people share. mental illness is a worldwide problem and simple listening to a song wont instantly make someone depressed. I love her music and it varies from each song but regardless they all have really meaningful messages.

  10. Anitka says:

If you would, say, understand what depression is, then you might understand the meanings behind some of her songs. If you pay attention to the words and not just listen, but read them, you would understand that “wish you were gay” is a version of a love song. She wants to love him but he doesn’t want to love her. All he does is “…When all you do is walk the other way?…”. So don’t be knocking her music until you understand what her songs mean. If you don’t want to take the time, when all we have is time thanks to COVID-19, then keep those thoughts to yourself. Billie Eilish has fans, that understand what she is putting out for the world to hear.

  11. frank says:

thx for that marki ,isaiah hope u gat the message

  12. Libbyg says:

She’s a devil worshipper and every single one of you is blind and its startling. And no, not because of her obvious freakyalbum about where do we go when we go to sleep but about small little things she does says and wears which always give a nod to Satan. The things written on her clothes, pay attention ppl. You are letting your children listen to this garbage. I’m with you Isiah

    • mina says:

There’s a thing here called FREE SPEECH. that covers singing about your feelings!!!! WHY ARE YOU LISTENING.. IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT?? KEEP YOUR UNINFORMED, BIASED GOSSIP TO YOURSELF AND HOPE one day you have the insight that this young girl has.. she’s searching because she has imagination.. Einstein said without that.. you live a worthless boring life .SHE JUST STARTED GET LIFE. LET HER LIVE and find your own life.

  13. Crazy Wolf Woman says:

I’m a 65 yr old grandmother and I love Billie Eilish. I’m a huge Joni Mitchell fan and Billies uniqueness reminds me of Joni in so many ways. Listen to Amelia, Joni chord modulates 3 times in that song. It’s beautiful and haunting and that is the same feeling I get from Billie and her brother. Both write so poetically it makes my heart break over and over again with them. When they suffer they are simply brilliant.

  14. Crazy Wolf Woman says:

I love Billie’s uniqueness and her first album blew me away. I heard her on the soundtrack at the end of a movie. I don’t remember the movie but I had to find who it was and the song was Bad Guy. I’m a musician/ songwriter in my 60’s and I haven’t heard anyone that excited me like Billie and her brother did since I discovered Joni Mitchell when I was 12 at the neighborhood swimming pool when I heard her sing NIGHT IN THE CITY. Billie has given me that same experience igniting my musical senses. She’s really awesome….

  15. Abigail says:

‘And truth be told, this is a unique stance to take in a music industry in which female artists have increasingly become dependent on their sex appeal. Indeed many even go through surgical body modifications to appear a certain way’
What???? You did not have to body and slut shame other women to praise Billie. Billie has literally said not to use HER STYLE to shame other women. It’s so sad that more people aren’t talking about this.

  16. Nine years old says:

Bruh, I’m one of her followers, she’s my neighbor and I’m only nine! Yah, true ! I got her autograph! She my uncle friend…😁😁😁

  17. ulv says:

Billie Eilish is as fake as fake goes. In “Not my responsibility” she sings:
Some people hate what I wear
    Some people praise it
Some people use it to shame others
Some people use it to shame me

Which kinda goes against what she says about men who wear Vans sneakers, that they have ‘low di-k energy” lmao. Being perhaps one who prefers that men’s … feet are dressed into something chunkier or not at all, Billie surely likes to sing a tune to her own ears. I’m left wondering now what kind of vans could she be into.
