The best way to describe “I Been Born Again” by Brockhampton is perhaps as a new-age rap cypher. That is to say that while Brockhampton may define themselves as a “boy band”, they are essentially rappers, right down to the content of their verses.

It is an admirable effort, as dropping proficient posse cuts are always a challenge. And Brockhampton brings a new twist to the category by giving this song a hardcore-trap feel.

As far as what the title means, the term itself is actually a popular-religious idiom alluding to an individual undergoing a transformative spiritual awakening. Such subject matter is not discussed in this song. So based on its lyrics, the presumption is that the title actually serves as a metaphor pointing to the artists realizing a new level of success and greatness.
