“Burn the Night Away” by The Paper Kites

“Burn the Night Away” is sorta reminiscent to “Good Nights Gone”, the one that precedes it on the playlist of “At the Roadhouse”, in that the (presumably) romantic relationship between the vocalist and addressee reads like a troubled one.

However, in this case it is not as terribly so, as at least the singer retains a strong desire for the person he is singing to. And that actually appears to be the thesis sentiment of the track, i.e. Sam “shaking, turning, dreaming… breaking, burning [and] needing” the “love” of the addressee.

So with that in mind, it appears that the titular notion of “burn(ing) the night away” is meant to point to the idea of the singer deriving pleasure when, if granted the opportunity, he is able to spend the evening fantasizing about his sweetheart.

“Shakin’, turnin’
Dreamin’ your love
Breakin’, burnin’
Needin’ your love
And I’ll burn the night away”

Sam Bentley, the leader of The Paper Kites, implied that he composed this song in particular alongside his bandmates, who are guitarists Christina Lacy and David Powys, drummer Josh Bentley and bassist Same Rasmussen. But only Sam is credited as its writer, and he also officially produced the track, in that regard working alongside Matt Redlich.

This song was released on 1 September 2023, being part of the playlist of The Paper Kites’ sixth LP, “At the Roadhouse”. The labels behind the issuance of this project, as with the band’s five studio albums which preceded it, are Wonderlick Entertainment and Sony Music Australia.
