“Girl of My Dreams” by Juice WRLD, Suga & BTS

“Girl of My Dreams” is of course a love song. Juice WRLD, the main vocalist, is indeed addressing the ‘girl of his dreams’, i.e. his current girlfriend, who he also feels is the perfect romantic interest for him personally. That is to say that Juice has had a number of females in his life.

But generally speaking, he finds most women in that regard wanting, and his romantic experiences have buttressed that belief.

But now, as stated, he has hooked up someone he truly loves. And to note, the situation doesn’t read as if he fell for her just like that. Instead, the addressee has proven that she would go the extra mile in the name of treating him right. So it’s like on top of appreciating that extraordinary effort, Juice has also grown accustomed to being the recipient of this type of exceptional affection – or more simply put, has thoroughly fallen in love with the addressee.

So accordingly the thought of her leaving him is one he cannot bear, as he even proceeds to threaten the addressee’s life in that regard.

Suga of BTS steps in

Meanwhile, well first let it be known that we’re relying on a rough translation of Suga’s verse. And he’s not coming off on that hardcore romantic tip like WRLD, rather focusing on how, even while being in a romantic relationship with the addressee, at times he still feels lonely.

It has been put forth that what this song is actually about is the vocalist(s) being caught up in a tumultuous romance, one that is headed towards its dissolution. WRLD’s passages don’t actually read as so. But also taking Suga’s more blatantly pessimistic disposition into consideration, such may theoretically be the case. However, since his lyrics are borderline unintelligible as translated by Google, until we come across a more accurate translation such remains a hypothesis.

That disposition may be related to the first line of the chorus, where Juice states that even though he has found ‘the girl of his dreams’, he isn’t “falling asleep”, i.e. given his mind over to fantasies, hypothetically speaking.

Or as implied earlier, despite the vocalist currently being in an edifying relationship, memories of being caught up in less-than-ideal romances in the past still linger fresh in his soul, and accordingly he isn’t taking anything for granted.

The Conclusion

That said, this does not really appear like one of those songs whereas reading deeply into the lyrics is intended. Yes, it may be premised, to some degree, on the vocalist suffering from a lack of edifying romance. But more to the obvious point, at least from Juice WRLD’s perspective, would be that now he has indeed found that special someone who he truly adores.

Your take on Suga’s “pessimistic” worldview is disappointingly incorrect. I can’t speak for him, but I know he is a deep, passionate thinker, and a kind and giving person. You could do a bit of research on him to learn more. There are lots of accurate translations out there for his part in the song (google translations suck); maybe check out @ColinSH3 on Twitter? He is a teacher at Harvard I think, and is Korean. Good luck on your research!
