Gorillaz’s “Friday 13th” Lyrics Meaning

Based on the first verse of “Friday 13th”, it reads as if the narrative therein is premised on the singer being high on hard intoxicants. And accordingly there is a hodge-podge of sentiments being expressed throughout. For instance, at certain points the lyrics read like your quintessential rap song, with Octavian threatening opps and the such. But by the time it concludes, it morphs into somewhat of a love song, with the narrator expressing his romantic expectations with a certain lady.

Meanwhile the title itself is based on the superstitious belief that certain Fridays are unlucky. But in a more-general sense, it seems the track was named so to allude to the idea of it being centered on a wild night of partying which the vocalist and his cohorts is experiencing.
