“Hurt Again” by Julia Michaels

“Hurt Again” is a song celebrating love, with a strange twist which can only be handled by a master songwriter like Julia Michaels. In it, she takes on the role of someone who apparently is engaging in a new romance. And the signs are already there that, like the ones she has engaged in the past, this particular relationship will also prove to be short-lived, as in ending in heartbreak and disappointment.  However, despite this realization, she is more than “ready to be hurt again” in the name of love.

But that does not mean she has blindly accepted the likelihood of this union following in the same ugly path as the others. Rather, as the bridge illustrates, she is “hoping” that his particular lover will “prove (her) wrong”. She hopes that he does not do anything to ‘hurt her again’ like her previous lovers did.  However, as alluded to earlier, all things considered she is not overly-confident that this romance will prove to be the one.
