“Jesus Lord, Pt. 2” by Kanye West (ft. The LOX and Jay Electronica)

We already worked on the original Jesus Lord, a collaboration between Kanye West, Jay Electronica and Larry Hoover Jr. to be honest, even though the latter vocalist is not giving any type of headline billing. But in this case the members of The Lox – respectively Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P – are also given verses. So it is the lyrics of those latter three artists that we will focus on.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Kanye West's Jesus Lord, Pt. 2 at Lyrics.org.

And for starters, whereas Jesus Lord was originally and pretty much wholly a socially-conscious rap, Sheek Louch’s verse is more of what you would expect from the likes of The Lox, i.e. a lot of street talk and money-based braggadocio. The difference, however, is that with Kanye in mix, just about the end of every other line is adlibbed, if you will, with either “Jesus” or “Lord”. Sheek also alludes to himself being God’s chosen, if you will, i.e. someone whom the devil himself has beef with.

Jadakiss

Meanwhile Jadakiss’s verse is a lot more spiritually minded. Yes, he also gets some wealth-based boasting up in there. But additionally ‘Kiss use the opportunity to for instance harp back to being emotionally devastated by the loss of a loved one, whom some have speculated may well be former Ruff Ryders’ cohort DMX, who passed away earlier in 2021.

And the rapper also fundamentally puts forth that he has a personal relationship with God, even being more focused on heavenly matters than those of the world. Along those same lines, he further states that ‘we all need God’ and eventually, one day will have “to meet Him”, so like it’s best to be prepared beforehand.

Styles P

But Styles P’s passage, honestly, is a bit more difficult to put together. He even goes as far as referencing ‘getting coke from Jesus’ – whatever that’s supposed to mean – as well as relying on a bit of numerology, or something like that.  But overall there is an ascertainable message. The implication would be that Styles is still very much living that street life.  But he is also mindful of a higher power, sorta like his teammate Jadakiss but apparently not as much.

All in all

So when you add all of this to the original Jesus Lord, the track goes from approximately 9 minutes in length to well over 11. And considering the contributions of not only three individual emcees in The Lox but also Larry Hoover Jr., Jay Electronica and Yeezus, there’s a whole lot going on here. But as with the original, the thesis sentiment, taking into account the aforementioned adlibbing (which is pretty much constant throughout) as well as the chorus, would be something like an admonishment to get close to Jesus, i.e. a divine power who supports those in need.
