Lil Mabu’s “Mathematical Disrespect” Meaning

Lil Mabu is a rapper from New York City who, according to a number of sources, has officially been in the game since 2019. In between now and then, he has released quite a few songs. And at the time of the dropping of “Mathematical Disrespect”, Mabu’s breakthrough track, on 4 May 2023, he is 18 years old.

This song is actually a self-released joint which managed to blow up, most notably via TikTok. And the vocalist wrote “Mathematical Disrespect” himself, with additional authorship credit being given to its producer, an Italy-based musician who goes by the name of Hemz.

The Lyrics of “Mathematical Disrespect”

The lyrics of this song might be considered prophetic or foretelling, as Lil Mabu was accurately able to predict making a name for himself. And more specifically, the first verse starts off with him boasting along the lines of being able to do so without being backed by a record label, as virtually all other artists do. In other words, the vocalist is celebrating being a successful yet independent artist.

Afterwards, he reveals that his lyricism includes embellishing his lifestyle. And it would appear that the rapper is making that admission to not only clear that air that he isn’t actually a gangsta but also to imbue the track with what can be deemed a comic undertone. For example, Lil Mabu has to be the first rapper we’ve ever come across to admit that he sleeps with a teddy bear.

He then goes on to clarify that he’s “about keeping the peace”. Within the context of the rap genre, that would be this vocalist’s way of putting forth that he’s not out to get into a confrontation with anyone. Even though he is bragging, Mabu isn’t looking for any beef from any of his peers who may take such a stance as being a challenge.

The vocalist concludes the verse by dedicating a few bars to what appears to be a specific romantic interest. At first, it’s as if Mabu perceives that she and her friend want to spend his “bread”, i.e. use him.  But he’s not privy to entertaining them due to their lack of physical attractiveness. However, by the time all is said and done, it seems that Lil does proceed to sleep with homegirl, even though he comes off as if he didn’t really want to.

Interlude

The ending of the first verse then segues into the interlude, with Lil Mabu continuing to reference the color purple. This is in relation to the singer claiming that he “blew her back out”, which is a colloquialism meaning he sexed the aforementioned girl really hard. 

So as far as the interlude is concerned, he uses “blue and red”, the colors that “equal purple”, as homonyms pointing to the aforementioned utilization of the word “blew” in addition to him having afterward having “left her on read”. It’s not abundantly clear what that latter statement means. But in context, it appears to be some type of way of Mabu letting this girl know that he’s not really serious about their relationship.

The Verse and Outro “Mathematical Disrespect”

Or as implied by the nature of the terse second verse, ‘leaving her on read’ may be another way of saying that homegirl reached out to the vocalist, but he decided to ignore her after already sleeping with her.  And along those lines, Lil namedrops at least four other women he did that to, who are “texting” and “begging” him “for more”. 

But considering that the vocalist already admitted he ‘caps’, i.e. lies, ‘in his raps’, we will take such boasting as being an embellishment. That is to say that this track more or less revolves around Mabu copying the common braggadocious musings of mainstream rappers, such as having the ability to sleep with as many women as he chooses.

The song finally concludes with the outro, in which Lil Mabu sticks to other established norms in the rap game, such as touting his superiority over his peers and harping on his success. But once again, he conducts the latter by pointing out that he’s a self-made artist. And his goal is apparently to keep going strong as such until her earns A list name recognition.
