Meaning of “Till the Flame Turns Blue” by The Paper Kites

A blue flame is a complete fire in a manner of speaking, i.e. said color connoting the hottest type of flame. So when the vocalist expresses his intent to “burn” with the addressee “until the flame turns blue”, that reads like another way of Sam expressing his desire to have a fully romantic evening with the person he’s singing to.

The lyrics also imply that this may be his ex or someone who the singer has been with for so long that now the spark between them has waned. So the vocalist intends to use this occasion, i.e. a night out on the town, to reestablish his love for his sweetheart.
