“Memories” by Conan Gray
“Memories” revolves around Conan Gray wanting nothing more with his ex-partner, other than the memories. The twist here is that his ex-partner seems to be hanging around him when he wants to get over her/him.
In fact, despite the heartache he is going through, we still find Gray offering this ex-partner good advice – to stay away as “there’s no good reason” to give hope that they’ll be together again. The assumption is that this relationship has been one with multiple on and off phases to the point that it’s worn him out.
And it’s rather obvious throughout the song that this ex-partner has issues accepting that Gray is moving on as they keep finding ways to come back to his life. All he wants is for them to “stay in (his) memories”.
We soon find that he has reached his end of patience being in this messy situation, in the bridge, when he says “that one good cologne” that’s on everything of his has made him “feel like dying”. It just shows that he’s so out of love with his ex-partner that even their smell creates a repulsion to them.
To note, many of Gray’s fans have shared how these sentiments are relatable to them as they have/are going through such phases.

“Memories” was released on 15th April, 2022 as part of Gray’s second album “Superache”. At the time of the release of this song, the album had no release date.
Gray first teased this track’s official release date on his Instagram account on 10th April, 2022.
Credits
Gray has been noted to write many of his songs. He co-wrote “Memories” with Dan Nigro, an American songwriter and record producer. Nigro is known for his membership of As Tall As Lions. He has also made a name for himself writing songs for a plethora of notable artists, including Carly Rae Jepsen and Olivia Rodrigo. For example, he co-wrote Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” (which was one of the biggest hits of 2021).
