“Rolling On Easy” by The Paper Kites

Sam Bentley has described this “Rolling On Easy” as being about “a character that moves from town to town, leaving nothing but memories of her”. And that would indeed be the subject at hand, with the lyrics not being based on peoples’ memories of her as much as her lifestyle in general.

As depicted she is “rolling on easy”. What this means is that she’s living a freewheeling lifestyle where she travels around “in an old blue Camaro” that was formerly owned by father. As for her occupation, it is revealed that she is “a fan of a traveling band”.

And in terms of people’s memories of the subject, a “boy” is mentioned in the first verse who she once kissed and resultantly “landed right under (her) spell”, i.e. being permanently smitten by such an insignificant gesture, if you will, on the part of influential lady.

“Rollin’ on easy, rollin’ on through
Leavin’ this strange town memories of you
Rollin’ on easy, rollin’ on through
It’s easy to say, harder to stay
Tell me, what’s callin’ you?”

Who wrote “Rolling on Easy”?

This was written by Sam Bentley, who also co-produced it with Matt Redlich. Actually it seems that Sam composed all the songs on the project “At the Roadhouse”. This is the album upon which “Rolling on Easy” can be found.
