“Sacrifice” by Bebe Rexha

Bebe Rexha and co. based this song on the widely-acknowledged fact that being in a romantic relationship requires sacrifice on the part of the pair involved. However, as perhaps to be expected, the lyrics do not focus on sacrifices she is willing to make for her significant other. Rather the lyrical onus is on him to live up to her expectations. Or put otherwise, what she is actually focusing on is her own expectancy from her partner concerning the relationship at hand.

And these demands are not of the material variety. Instead what Bebe is realistically saying, albeit in somewhat of an extreme way, is that she wants to be the only woman in his life.

Furthermore, let’s also say that she is very serious when she puts this idea forth. She understands that the addressee has dealt with other ladies in the past. But as far as the here and now is concerned, the narrator is not willing to tolerate the idea of him having another romantic interest.

So as far as exes are concerned, he should “say goodbye” to the concept of ever reconnecting with them altogether. In fact Rexha wants to be the only woman who has any type of internal influence on him. Or stated otherwise, she demands to be the exclusive lady on his mind. And if he is not willing to make such a “sacrifice” in the name of being with her, then the implication is that she would rather be with someone who is.
