“Sit Around and Miss You” by The Black Keys

As you probably gathered from reading the title of this track, this is a love song.  Or more accurately it is a heartbreak song, with the singer reminiscing on what went wrong and how the departure of a beloved one has negatively affected his life.

In the first verse he insinuates that the two of them took their relationship for granted. And in the second he also alludes to the idea that the termination of their union was brought about mutually, as in they both “let it go”. But the bulk of his thoughts are actually focused on ‘missing’ this person “awful bad”. And the third verse seems to imply that as a result of this person’s departure, he is going through a deep sense of loneliness and loss.

It should be noted that the singer never specifies the exact nature of the relationship he had with this individual other than he considered them a “friend”. Nor is the gender of the person he is singing to ever mentioned.  So “Sit Around and Miss You” may have a general applicability outside of romantic settings.  However, by and large the song reads as if he is lamenting over a breakup, and most people will logically interpret it as such.
