Katy Perry (through Capitol Records) released “Smile” on July 10th, 2020. It is actually the fourth single Katy released from her sixth studio album (which shares the same name with the song). The first three singles from the album are as follows:

It should be noted that a few weeks to the song’s release, the demo versio of it leaked online. This version featured hip hop artist Diddy. However, upon the song’s official release, Diddy’s vocals were missing from it. It’s not exactly clear why this happened.

Katy penned “Smile” along with a bunch of other writers, including the members of the hip hop trio, Naughty by Nature. The reason Naughty by Nature members are credited as co-writers is because “Smile” heavily samples the trio’s hit song “Jamboree”.

“Smile” has a total running time of 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
