“Taco Tuesday” by Migos

Perhaps the best way to describe this song is with the word “taco” serving as a metaphor or a romantic interest or even more accurately a sensual liaison between the rapper(s) and a preferred female partner. Indeed even the word “taco” itself sometimes serves as a direct slang term for a female’s body orifice. So even though this song was released on Cinco de Mayo, it is not celebrating Latino culture per se. Or rather the Migos are doing so in their own unique way, which is by celebrating Latinas, so to speak.

And the way the story plays out is that said ladies are down to do what the homeys want in the name of making money or getting “the cheese”, as illustrated by another food-based metaphor. So at the end of the day we can say this song is based on a general motif of comparing bedroom fun with the rappers’ favorite foodstuffs, which the primary focus of course being on “tacos”.

“Taco Tuesday” was written by Migos’ members Quavo, Offset and Takeoff.

It also relies on a sample from a 2019 Lebron James video. As such the NBA star is also credited as a co-writer, as is the track’s producer, DJ Durel.

Quality Control Music, Capitol Records and Motown Records released this track on 5 May 2020.
