“Tearing Me Up” by Bob Moses
Although Jimmy Valance, one of the two co-writers of “Tearing Me Up”, has stated that “the lyrics speak for themselves”, honestly this isn’t the simplest love song – if you want to call it that – which we have come across. But what is apparently going down is that the vocalist has developed strong feelings for a lady who is already in a committed relationship. On the surface, she likewise appears to be feeling him.
And by the looks of things, he doesn’t have a major issue with her already being with someone, though he is a bit perturbed by that fact. Instead, presumably with that reality being a factor, he seems unconvinced that she is truly interested in him, with Bob being under the impression that homegirl may be just toying with his emotions. He admits that since he is in fact smitten such is actually possible, i.e. the addressee being in a position where she can easily mislead him. And ultimately that is the concept the title of this song points to, the singer experiencing some serious internal turmoil trying to figure out if this woman he has fallen for truly feels the same.
