“We Fell in Love in October” is a love song which, from a lyrical perspective, is noteworthy for two reasons. First is that it’s being relayed by a teenaged female. Secondly and most importantly would be that it is lesbian in nature. That is to say this track features one girl expressing romantic love for another.

But outside of that, if it were for instance a male singing, the narrative is pretty average albeit poetic, which is perhaps to be expected considering that Girl in Red was in her mid-teens when she wrote it. 

Maybe the biggest difference between “We Fell in Love in October” and a male love song is that this piece doesn’t have any type of sexual undertone, therefore affording the vocalist the opportunity to focus on more romantic wording. 

But in any event, it is interesting to note that even at that age, the artist was bold enough to write a song where she is not only openly lesbian but is “smoking cigarettes” with a homey. And this homey, the addressee, is also the girl that she is in love with. 

And conclusively, besides expressing her strong feelings, the vocalist is also telling her not to entertain the prospect of the two of them failing as a couple, as she is personally in it for the long haul.

Girl in Red is a singer from Norway who has been rockin’ in a professional capacity since her late teens and being 19 years old when this track was dropped on 11 November 2018. And it is a song she had actually written in 2015, though having reworked “We Fell in Love in October” for its official, standalone single release.

Girl in Red’s musical ambitions trace back to when she had turned 13, and her granddad gifted her a guitar. And the songstress’s breakthrough single was actually her first joint, 2017’s “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend”.

Thus far Girl in Red has one studio album under her belt, 2021’s “If I Could Make It Go Quiet”, which most notably peaked at number seven on the UK Albums Chart.

Girl in Red, is in fact gay and has even been notably recognized as a queer icon.

“We Fell in Love in October” proved to be one of the singer’s biggest commercial hits, having been certified gold by the RIAA stateside. And the track also reached a position of number four on the UK Singles Chart.

In October, 2022, Girl in Red released a sequel to this song titled “October Passed Me By“. The said song centered on the demise of her relationship with the addressee of “We Fell in Love in October”.
