“You’ve Got A Friend” was released as a single in 1971. It was a part of Taylor’s third album entitled “Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon”.

It was originally written and recorded by iconic American singer, Carole King that same year. King’s version was part of her iconic 1971 album entitled “Tapestry”. However, it never became as popular as Taylor’s rendition/cover.

Taylor’s version performed very well across the globe and peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. In the United Kingdom, the song placed fourth on that territory’s official Singles Chart.

As one of the major hit songs in the 1970s, other musicians have provided their own versions. Some notable artistes that have done this include Michael Jackson as well as Dusty Springfield.
