Meaning of “Panda” by Desiigner

Panda is a song by American rapper and singer Desiigner. The song’s legendary hook is about Desiigner’s love for the BMW X6, which according to him bares great resemblance to a panda bear thanks to its white body and tinted windows. Away from the white BMW X6, Desiigner also talks or rather raps about the black BMW X6 bearing resemblance to another car that he loves, the Rolls Royce Phantom.

  • Panda was written by Desiigner and music producer Menace, with the latter handling the production of the song.
  • Desiigner stumbled upon the catchy beat of Panda on YouTube and instantly fell in love with it.
  • According to Menace, who produced the Panda beat, he sold the beat to Desiigner for an amount of $200. Menace said he used only about two hours to produce and master the beat.
  • Desiigner got inspiration for the song’s theme during the course of playing the popular video game Grand Theft Auto V.
  • According to Desiigner, the famous line from the song in which he raps about having “broads in Atlanta”, is false since at the time of writing the song, he had never been to the city of Atlanta. The rapper revealed to Billboard magazine that that line was inspired by a lady he me on Facebook who said she came from Atlanta.
  • Since being released in December 2015, Panda has been remixed and sampled by numerous artists including Lupe Fiasco, Meek Mill, T-Pain, Lil’ Kim, Lil Mama, and others.
